CSD2 awards "attendance baton"

Posted

The baton attendance award is awarded to the school with the least tardiness. Kyndra Johnson is the district truancy officer as well as the district social worker. The attendance initiative started as a Tardiness Campaign in November of 2019. Supervisor, Dr. Jacqueline Inabinette and Ms. Johnson did some brainstorming on ways they could assist with improving student attendance.

During the Tardiness Campaign, they asked all schools to participate by using creative ways to take time and promote the importance of arriving at school on time, every day. This was done by the schools posting flyers on their websites, social media platforms, school marquees/morning afternoon announcements, and creating mini videos.

“I shared the tardy data to all schools, with the assistance of Beth Rollins (Powerschool Coordinator). Manning Primary School produced  the highest decreased percentage for students with tardies and received our Monarch Spirit Bouton at the December board meeting,” said Johnson “We kicked off our attendance improvement initiative in October 2020 and continued with this initiative monthly. We wanted to bring awareness to the importance of taking daily attendance. We also wanted to ensure that we have accurate attendance data, especially when we are communicating with parents and students. I am extremely proud of the improvements we are making with taking attendance, and I appreciate the hard work of our staff, especially our attendance clerks and teachers.”

On March 1st of 2021, the award was given to Manning Primary School. This is the second time MPS has received the Attendance Baton award. Ms. Johnson handed over the award to the staff and thanked them for their hard work and dedication. The staff members of MPS were extremely happy with receiving this award yet again.
