EDITOR'S NOTE: Sumter County Sheriff's Deputy Bernard Thomas, a native of Clarendon County, died earlier this month after dealing with an illness. His father, Albert, wrote this to thank the public and family and friends for their support during this difficult time. “My wife, Curtis, Keia, the children and I wanted to say ‘Thank you’ for all the prayers and support that you’ve shown toward us during the time we needed it most. Your prayers have helped heal the unspeakable and unexplainable pain that our family has been experiencing since the death of our son, Bernard. Our hearts have been cut into a million pieces. But ‘there is power in prayer,’ (and) we are experiencing it in a great way. Our days are getting better.” – Albert Thomas
