Ingredion Incorporated, a leading global ingredients solutions company, is expanding its existing operations in Charleston County. The company's growth is expected to bring more than $10 million of capital investment and lead to the creation of five new positions. "With a pro-business environment, skilled workforce and excellent location, North Charleston is a great fit for Ingredion. One of the outstanding features of the area is the superior transportation that the Port of Charleston offers," said Ingredion Executive Vice-President for Global Specialties Jim Zallie. "Reliable transportation is essential to our business. We need a smooth-functioning system to deliver the raw materials used in our products, as well as to deliver finished product to our customers. The proximity to the Port of Charleston is a clear advantage." Serving customers in more than 100 countries, Ingredion turns grains, fruits, vegetables and other plant materials into value-added ingredients and biomaterial solutions for a variety of industries. Located in Charleston since 1988, Ingredion is a Fortune 500 company with $5.7 billion in sales in 2016. "This latest investment by Ingredion in Charleston County is a tremendous example of how companies of all sizes can thrive here," said Gov. Henry McMaster. "With companies like this one leading South Carolina's manufacturing industry, there is no doubt that our state is going straight to the top." Located at 7680 Southrail Road in North Charleston, S.C., this expansion will enable Ingredion to double its exports out of the Port of Charleston. "South Carolina continues to lead the way in manufacturing, and today's expansion announcement by Ingredion is a testament to that," said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. "As a longtime member of the Lowcountry community, we congratulate Ingredion and look forward to seeing all that they can accomplish as they continue to thrive here."
