MPD warns of realistic, but fake $100 bills

The Manning Police Department is warning residents and business owners to be on the lookout for counterfeit $100 bills that look almost like the real thing.

"The bills have 'For Cinematic Use Only' at the top and bottom on the front and back," said Inv. Rick Elms. "These have been spotted in businesses throughout town. One business even used the pen on it and still took it."

The money also has phrases emblazoned throughout that lead one to quickly realize it's "prop money." Such utterances include that exact phrase, along with "Cinemas Props Inc." listed as Secretary of the Treasury and a fictional Nelson Jose as Treasurer of the United States. The bills also state "For Motion Picture Use Only" to the right of Benjamin Franklin's face, along with the phrase "This note is not legal tender for all debts, public and private."

Elms said that, thus far, police have only seen the bills in denominations of $100.
