Farmers Market back for another year

The Manning Farmers Market will open June 10 at the Big Red Barn on the corner of Church and Boyce streets. The market has been in business for more than nine years, providing local farmers and gardeners the chance to showcase their produce locally. Main Street Manning and city tourism Director Carrie Trebil said that more than 10 vendors are signed up for this year’s market already. They will be selling a variety of fruits and vegetables, as well as soaps and woodcrafts. “The city of Manning is excited about the 2017 Farmers Market,” said Trebil. “We will have great local produce, as well as craft items available.” The market is equipped to accept Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, as well as credit and debit cards. Although technically open between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. every Saturday through October, the market begins seeing customers as early as 8 a.m., when farmers begin unloading their produce. “I always tell people to come early,” said Trebil. “Everything is just about gone (by noon). People come out early and get what they want and then head home.” This is the ninth year that the market will be situated near the red barn and at Manning Municipal Park. Organizers were hopeful the visibility would help, and Trebil thinks the move has been a success. “Join us each Saturday this summer for matchless produce,” Trebil said. There are still a few spots available for rent at the market. Call (803) 435-8477 for more information.
