Laurence Manning Academy junior Carson Woodard Lowder is one of five young men chosen by Black River Post No. 149 of New Zion to participate this summer in the American Legion Palmetto Boys State at Anderson University.
Lowder, the son of Chuck and Debbie Lowder of Pamplico, will attend Boys State from June 1-17. At Laurence Manning Academy in Manning, he plays varsity football and is on the golf team. He is a member of the Beta Club and the National Honor Society and is a Relay for Life volunteer.
Boys State will feature more than 1,000 South Carolina residents attending a vigorous week of intense training in local, county and state government. Attendees will elect a governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state treasurer, state comptroller, Supreme Court justice and members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Additionally, students may take classes in law and newspaper editing, as well as participate in the Palmetto Boys State band.
