No term limits for me

Posted
I want to run for United States Senator. I might even run for congress. All the things that you want I’m for. I’m for balanced budgets, better farm bill, and lower taxes. Don’t think I’m not serious. I have political experience. I was on the Greeleyville Town council twice. I am a father, husband, churchgoer and all the other things that people mention in their campaigns that don’t seem to matter. Abortion, immigration, gun control, regulatory relief, nuclear proliferation, I have heard of all those things. The only thing I’m not for is term limits. Don’t be mad with me. I think many politicians stay in office too long. My problem is that I’m already old. If I get elected to the Senate, I’ll be in there six years before I have to run again. You wouldn’t begrudge me two terms. Two terms could put me in my 70s. That might be my term limit. I’m not saying that people in their 70s are too old. Seven decades of living might be all the time you get. Remember that as people age the closer they are to their own demise. That should be all the term limit that we need. Every man is just and chest pain away and every woman is just a lump in her breast away from thinking about things in an entirely different light. That could certainly limit their terms too. OK, I’ll admit that there could be many politicians have been in office too long. How about blaming their constituents though. People still vote for these politicians and they get another term. Term limits wouldn’t help the districts where they keep voting for the same old representative. That really means we have to blame ourselves for some of the problems we face with inefficient representatives. I’ve pleaded my case now. Vote for me if you see me on a ballot. Don’t expect me to be voting for any changes in the term limits for our politicians. I just want to get into office and get to stay there awhile. I’ll take my chances with getting voted out of office or having to resign because of health considerations. Well, that settles all the political statements I need to make. Just so you know how I will vote, I plan to vote for what the registered voters of my district want. That is, unless I decide that I know better than my constituents. Now comes the hard part. Mounting a campaign and getting elected is a daunting task. Things can change in a hurry. Death, indictment or countless other things can make the political landscape in short order. Maybe I’ll be appointed to finish out someone’s term. That might be the easiest way for me. It could save all that fundraising and stuff. Decisions could really muddy up this plan. I have to decide what to run for and when. Maybe a consultant should be considered. The consultant could get my watch, tell me what time it is and keep my watch and send me a bill, too. On second thought, I may vote for term limits. The last board I was on I got off after my first term. No matter what you think, this all happens to be a lot of work.
