Lt. Carroll Harington was chosen by his peers recently to be the Manning Police Department 2016 Officer of the Year.

Chief Blair Shaffer presented the award to the 58-year-old last week at the department's annual luncheon.

“I would hope that I was chosen for the award by my peers because I am good at what I do and because I do everything I need to do,” said Harrington. “I enjoy my job and I feel extremely honored that I was chosen for this award.”

Harrington has served in the police department for 34 years. He started working for the Manning Police Department in 1983 and left in 1990 to serve with the Summerton Police Department.

He was chosen in 1995 as the Summerton Police Department Officer of the Year, as well.

He returned to Manning in 2000, and serves on patrol in his current rank.
