Moving truck passenger dies in I-95 wreck

The South Carolina Highway Patrol said one person was killed Saturday afternoon in a wreck on Interstate 95. Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said the one-vehicle wreck happened about 5:15 p.m. near the 137 mile-marker in the northbound lanes of I-95, near the Clarendon-Sumter line. Southern said a 30-foot moving truck was traveling in those lanes when it ran off the right side of the road. The driver over-corrected and the vehicle overturned. The truck skidded off the left side of the road and overturned several more times. Southern said the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle and died on the scene due to blunt force trauma. An identity has not yet been released. Southern said the driver was wearing a seatbelt. The driver was transported to Palmetto Health Tuomey, where he was treated for minor injuries. The wreck remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
