Police seeking suspects stealing foreign, uncommon currency

The Manning Police Department is looking for suspects who have allegedly been breaking into homes within city limits and stealing collectible and specialty coins and dollar bills. Capt. Sonia Daniels said the items taken include $2 bills and some foreign currency. "We are asking anyone for information about these stolen items, if they see anything or hear anything, to please contact law enforcement," Daniels said. She said police are not sure whether these residential break-ins are related to similar break-ins happening to unlocked and unsecure vehicles in the area south of Sunset Drive. She said neighbors need to watch out for each other and notify police if they see anything suspicious. "I may not be home, but if you're my neighbor and you see something suspicious on my property, call law enforcement," she said. "Other than that, residents can make sure their homes are secure and locked. If they see anything around their own home, any suspicious activity whatsoever, that should be reported." Daniels said police have been going to local stores to tell owners and employees about the foreign and otherwise "strange" currencies. "These aren't dollar amounts that people would normally use, and some of the money is foreign, so if stores see this kind of money, they should call law enforcement," Daniels said. Those with information can call (803) 435-8859 or 911.
