Morris gets five years

Circuit Court Judge Roger Young sentenced Sumter resident Chad Morris, 40, to five years in prison on Friday after the man's conviction for both negligent operation of a watercraft and failure to render assistance with death resulting.

The five-year sentence was the for the latter charge, while Young gave a concurrent 30-day sentence for the negligent operation conviction, along with a $200 fine.

He will have to serve four years and three months - 85 percent - of his sentence, as it is a no-parole offense.
