Manning High School basketball standout Rayvon Witherspoon signed Friday to play basketball with the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie.
Witherspoon earned his 1,000th point during the 2015-16 varsity season, breaking the school's all-time record.
"By his final game, he had 1,142 points," said Coach Stevie Ward. "He played all positions on the team during his time with the Monarchs. He did a little bit of guard, center forward and this year he stayed at center forward."
Ward said Witherspoon had a "great ability when it comes to rebounding and shooting."
"He's a good all-around player," Ward said. "I think he will do well at Salkehatchie."
Ward said that Witherspoon, should he "improve his grades at his chosen school," could move up to a Division 1 school.
"My advice to him Friday was to not let this be his last signing," Ward said. "He could sign with a Division 1 school, and then go on to sign with the pros or the semi-pros. He shouldn't let this be the last one."
