Debbie Clement, renowned children’s author, songwriter, and entertainer, visited Manning Early Childhood Center on Monday in an effort to get its pre-k through first-grade students excited about reading.

“Debbie understands young children learn best through music, movement, and play,” said Principal Betty Harrington. “Through her very unique way of presenting stories, she combines music, sign language, and art to teach and entertain.”

To prepare for her visit, MECC students studied and responded to several of her books through project-based learning activities and created artwork to display around the school.

The Pre-K students focused on her motivational book about self-esteem, "You're Wonderful"; kindergarten students studied her patriotic book, "Red, White, and Blue"; and first grade students focused on "Tall Giraffe," which ties in with their grade level trip to Riverbanks Zoo.

“Debbie Clement is an awesome entertainer and educator with 19 years of experience entertaining students, and we are so fortunate to have her visit MECC," Harrington said.
