A Turbeville boy is in custody with the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia after allegedly shooting and killing his 38-year-old father Saturday night. The boy's name is not being released as he is 16 years old. Sheriff Randy Garrett said a call came into dispatch about 10:44 p.m. Saturday about a domestic dispute at 2452 Sandhill Road. "The preliminary results of our investigation show it was a domestic incident between the deceased and his wife," Garrett said. "The 16-year-old son tried to intervene, and after that, we believe the 16 year old retrieved a pistol and shot his father." Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock said Jeremiah Parshley, 38, of the home, was shot in the back. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina hospital today. Garrett said a judge will decide whether to charge the boy as a juvenile or as an adult. He is charged at the moment with murder "That will be based off our investigation and what the (3rd Circuit Solicitor's Office) decides to do," Garrett said. "Again, our investigation is still in the preliminary stages. This is a tragic situation all the way around."
