Letter: Pray for our nation in light of same-sex marriage decision

Posted
On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States of America, by a 5-4 vote, approved same-sex marriage in all 50 states. President Obama praised the decision and said we are making great progress. In 2008, when he was running for president, he said he believed a marriage should be between one man and one woman. He seems to change by what is politically correct. On TV, we saw shouting on the streets and the singing of the National Anthem. For me, as a Bible-believing Christian, I saw something entirely different. I see us as a nation which was founded on Christian principals, turning farther and farther away. The so-called Supreme Court, the highest court in the land, made up with men and women voted 5-4 which showed they were divided. Scripture tells us a house or nation divided against itself cannot stand. Our nation is truly divided. I do not think we can call it the United States of America anymore. There is only one Supreme Being, and that is the one true God who created all things, knows all things, sustains all things. Instead of shouting and singing, I believe we should be weeping and praying as Christ wept over Jerusalem because of their sin. We are to obey the laws of the land as long as they do not go against the laws of God. Genesis 2:24 says, “A man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and they shall become one flesh.” The Bible also teaches us that marriage I between one man and one woman as long as they both shall live. The Bible also says we are to multiply and replenish the earth. The Old and New testaments both teach against immorality. Genesis 19 tells of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah because of their immorality. In the New Testament, Romans 1:24-33, it tells what will happen to them. In 1 Corinthians: 6: 9-10, it tells us the same. All of these things are taking place in our world today. The scripture tells us we have all come short of the glory of God. How true this is. In God’s sight, there are no degrees in sin. My sins are as wrong as your sins. My sins are as wrong as your sins. I cannot judge anyone. Only a just God can do that, but we must judge sin according to God’s word. We must confess our sins, repent and turn away from them. Pray for our nation and world. JACK SEXTON Manning
