Tuomey Board taps Pinewood native for CEO

The Tuomey Healthcare System Board of Directors announced Friday that Michelle Logan-Owens will serve as acting president and chief executive officer effective Monday. She has worked at Tuomey for more than 20 years and most recently served as a vice-president. "We are confident that Michelle has the experience and talent to move Tuomey forward," said Tuomey Board Chairman John Brabham in a release. "As a leader at Tuomey, she has proven that she not only has the skills to lead our team, she also has the heart for our hospital and this community." Logan Owens, a native of Pinewood, is a 1990 graduate of Furman High School. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina and a master's degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She received a doctorate degree in healthcare administration last year from MUSC. She started at Tuomey as a clinical technician in the Surgical Inpatient Unit and later launched her nursing career as a registered nurse in the Oncology Unit. “I am honored that the Board has chosen me for this position, and together with the vice presidents, leadership team, and medical staff, I will work diligently to ensure we are successful in all of our endeavors,” Logan-Owens said. “I truly believe that our best days are ahead of us. Tuomey is my home, and I could not be more excited about the potential that the future holds for the delivery of healthcare in our community.” She, her husband Sly and their two daughters are members of Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church and she has also served on the S.C. Board for Families of Highway Fatalities.
