ABATE honored by Palmetto Pride for trash pickup in Clarendon

The ABATE Palmetto Chapter of Clarendon County was honored April 16 in Columbia by Palmetto Pride at its annual Adopt-A-Highway awards luncheon. Adopt-A-Highway is a volunteer litter pickup program coordinated by PalmettoPride in partnership with the state Department of transportation. In 2014, 24,751 volunteers from 1,904 groups picked up 1,064,762.5 pounds of litter from 4,707.34 miles of highway. "this is an estimated 43 pounds of trash picked up per person," says a release from Palmetto Pride. Proverbs 3 from Saluda County received the District 2 Award, as well as being named the State Group fo the Year. The group picked up 3,330 pounds of trash in 2014 on six miles of highway.
