Sen. Kevin Johnson honored retiring Clarendon County Magistrate Judge Billy Geddings Monday night during Clarendon County Council's regular monthly meeting in Manning, reading a proclamation from the General Assembly in council chambers. Geddings was initially appointed to the position by Sen. John Land, but was forced to retire due to state laws regarding the ages of judges. "We have been lucky to find someone of Judge Geddings' character to serve us as long as he has," said Johnson. "We wish him a good and well-deserved retirement." Geddings said he has been "grateful to be able to serve." "I've enjoyed working with all the county departments, particularly with (Clarendon Behavioral Health Services Executive Director) Miss Ann (Kirven)," Geddings said. "I'm going to really miss it." County Council Chairman Dwight Stewart thanked Geddings for his service and noted that Monday was also the former judge's birthday. "So, we wish him a happy birthday as well," Stewart said.
