Women of Main Street: Dawn Strickland

Posted
EDITOR’S NOTE: Dawn Strickland, owner of New Dawn Salon, is one of nearly 100 local businesswomen who will be recognized Sept. 23 during Main Street Manning’s annual meeting. The Manning Times will be featuring a few of these women each week throughout September in The Manning Times, and posting stories daily on manninglive.com. A native of Hammonton, N.J., Dawn Strickland has a license in cosmetology but is currently in school for nursing. “I enjoy making people feel good about themselves,” she said. “I grew up in a small town where I learned the value of a good work ethic.” Strickland and her husband of 25 years have three children: David, 25; Ally, 16; and Joseph, 6. She is also taking care of 8-year-old Elainea. She has worked in cosmetology for eight years, since opening the shop in 2006. “I started at the lake, and worked with Beautiful Images,” she said. She will earn her associate’s degree in nursing from Central Carolina Technical College in May 2016, but says she will keep the salon.
