Manning resident Crystal Player Brunson is in her seventh year working as a medical/surgical nurse at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

“I couldn’t imagine myself doing any other job in any other place,” she said. “I absolutely love people. Nursing can be physically and emotionally demanding at times. Some shifts are harder than others. There are good shifts and bad shifts. And sometimes my feet hurt after a busy night.”

She is “thankful for the pain,” though.

“It just reminds me of how blessed I am to have two feet and that I’m able to work,” she said. “Some people live their lives sick and unable to work.”

She said it can be challenging “trying not to get emotionally attached” to her patients.

“It’s hard to see the same patients come in and out of the hospital for years with terminal/chronic illnesses and then pass away,” Brunson said. “Death is inevitable, but that fact doesn’t make it any easier. Through all the hard times, good times and changing times, one thing remains constant, and that’s my work family.”

She said her coworkers at Clarendon Memorial make “every shift a pleasure.”

“Being able to work as a team is a requirement in nursing, and I wouldn’t trade my team for anything!” she said.

What an exception to the rule. She should be very proud.
