SUMMERTON – Dorris McCall Jr., 87, husband of Dorothy Sargent McCall, and formerly of Weaverville, died Saturday, July 26, 2014.

Born May 23, 1927, in Pickens, "Junior" was a son of the late Dorris McCall Sr. and Iva Smith McCall. He was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life until returning to Summerton in 2003. He was married first to Ruth Ingle McCall, who died in 2002. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was formerly employed with Morgan Manufacturing and retired from Ethan Allen.

He was an avid flower and vegetable gardener and woodworker.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Donald McCall and Doug McCall.

Survivors besides his wife of 11 years include three daughters, Tammy Conner of Weaverville, Janice McCall Wheeler of Black Mountain and Peggy Sisk McCall of Asheville; two sons, Daniel McCall and Bruce McCall, both of Black Mountain; two sisters, Shelba Guthrie and Jeraldine (Leslie) Rice, both of Black Mountain; two stepsons, Craig (Cindy) Sargent and Randy (Donna) Sargent, all of Orangeburg; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Dorris McCall Jr. will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Summerton Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Ashba officiating, assisted by Rev. Billy Carlisle.

The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service in the fellowship hall of Summerton Baptist Church.
