Gable resident Thomas DuRant will serve on the America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education Farmer Advisory Council again in 2014. The Farmer Advisory Council is responsible for reviewing the top grant applications for the America’s Farmers Grow Rural Education program and will select rural school districts from across the U.S. to receive grants of either $10,000 or $25,000 to enhance math and science education. Coming from a variety of backgrounds in agriculture, council members are leaders in their communities and share a passion for rural America. “It is an honor and privilege to partner with the Monsanto Fund to help rural America succeed,” DuRant said. “My parents always emphasized the importance of education, service to others, and the desire to perform to the best of my ability. I have spoken to first graders about the importance of agriculture and witnessed excitement in their bright eyes along with their eagerness to learn. That inspires me with a passion to help others be all that they can be.” See the July 17 edition of The Manning Times for more.
