Laurence Manning Academy graduate Will Wannamaker was named Monday as the male student-athlete recipient of the 2014 Bill Simpson Award. The award is the highest presented to individual student-athletes in the South Carolina Independent School Association, recognizing the top graduating male and female student-athletes in the association, with more than 100 member schools. Recipients must have lettered in at least two varsity sports; received multiple athletic awards and honors; received recommendations from their headmasters, teachers and coaches; have sufficient SAT and ACT scores, along with a record of academic achievement; and show participation in clubs and civic and community service groups. Wannamaker was valedictorian for the LMA Class of 2014. The female student-athlete winner was Helen Cribb, a graduate of Ashley Hall in Charleston.
