Women on the move

Posted

Rochelle Witherspoon founded Women on the Move in June of 2023. A small, non-profit organization, Women on the Move’s mission is to help the members of the local community who find themselves in need. Any woman from Clarendon and surrounding counties can join and the group meets at the Shoney’s in Manning each Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

Witherspoon started the women’s group after her husband, Micheal, passed away in December of 2022. Married for over 25 years, the Witherspoons had their own ministry and loved giving back. After her husband’s death, Witherspoon took some time to heal and prayed for an outlet for her grief. This prayer birthed the Women on the Move ministry. “The Lord has blessed me so much,” Witherspoon exclaims.

A tradition that Witherspoon had with her husband was participating in Stuff the Bus drives by the Salvation Army. Women on the Move will continue this tradition by donating two bicycles to this year’s toy drive. Additionally, the organization has given away a Thanksgiving prize bag with food items and an IGA gift card to a single parent. The women plan on another drawing for a similar Christmas basket in December.

Witherspoon is thrilled to see the group growing and whole heartedly welcomes any local women to join. Women on the Move is always praying for more resources. Interested parties can contact Witherspoon at 803-526-4965.
