Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver to speak at Clarendon County GOP meeting

Ellen Weaver, South Carolina’s Superintendent of Education, is scheduled to speak at the Clarendon County GOP’s regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, October 10, at 5:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Clarendon County GOP headquarters, located at the corner of Brooks and Boyce Streets in downtown Manning. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m., with the meeting set to begin at 5 p.m.

Weaver, who was elected as the state’s 19th Superintendent of Education in November 2022, has been actively involved in education policy and reform efforts in South Carolina for many years. Weaver has focused her career on education policy in South Carolina, with an emphasis on increasing educational opportunities for students across the state. Born in Greenville, she has worked in various roles to address education-related issues.

A graduate of Bob Jones University with a B.A. in political science and a master’s in educational leadership, Weaver began her career in the office of Senator Jim DeMint, serving in various capacities over 12 years. She later founded the Palmetto Promise Institute, a public policy organization where she focused on education reform and policy research. Her leadership in the field includes chairing the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee, where she honed her expertise in education policy.

As Superintendent, Weaver's priorities include strengthening foundational skills, addressing educator recruitment and retention, and building partnerships with parents, business leaders, and communities to support student development.
