Summerton Town Hall is moving to a new building

When the Clarendon County School Board voted unanimously to combine the Dr. Rose Wilder Elementary school in Summerton along with the Summerton Early Childhood Center due to a decrease in student enrollment, Mayor Tony Junious saw an opportunity for Summerton. The State Department of Education told Clarendon School District Four back in previous years that SECC was to be combined with Dr. Rose Wilder Elementary due to short enrollment.

Mayor Junious said, “When I heard the district was considering combining SECC and Rose Wilder Elementary schools together, I thought it would be a great idea to discuss leasing the empty school building with the council so we can entertain conversations with the Clarendon County School District for a possible long term lease agreement. The Clarendon County School District passed a resolution between the School District and the Town of Summerton at the April meeting, allowing us to begin planning to move into what was once Summerton Early Childhood Center.”

On Tuesday, Apr. 25, the Summerton Town Council passed the same Resolution to enter into a long term lease agreement with the school district.

Mayor Junious said, “Once everything has been finalized in this agreement, we will be projecting to move in our new Town Hall Administrative Building by Jan. 21  of 2024. We have already begun receiving calls from various companies and agencies with interest in possibly leasing space from us once the lease is officially signed and in effect. I’m very excited about the growth the Town will anticipate over the next few years. This will have a positive impact on the Town of Summerton. This will give our staff a safe and conducive working environment.”
