Sports Buzz: Super Bowl LVIII

Posted

Super Bowl 58 was a hard-fought battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers are hoping for a different result as they meet the Chiefs once more in the Super Bowl. These sides squared off in Super Bowl 54, with the Chiefs coming out on top 31-20 giving star Quarterback Patrick Mahomes his first ever Super
Bowl.

The 49ers came out exploding in the first quarter, driving up the field with ease. They were, however, unable to score until the second quarter with rookie kicker Jake Moody scoring a 55-yard field goal, giving the 49ers an early 3-0 lead.

The Chiefs would eventually be able to drive up field but turned the ball over as Isiah Pacheco fumbled at the 11-yard line on first and goal. How unfortunate! The 49ers would capitalize and later score the go-ahead touchdown. Star running back Christian McCaffrey took it in for the first touchdown on a trick play extending the lead to 10-0. Towards the end of the first half, the Chiefs seemed to have something going with the drive as kicker Harrison Butker was able to end the half converting a 28-yard field goal and making the lead 10-3.

As half time ends and the 3rd quarter begins, the Chiefs are able to drive up the field and convert yet another field goal. This time for 57 yards, making the lead a competitive 10-6. Unfortunately, the 49ers would go three and out, punting the ball back to the Chiefs. They in turn, would also end up punting the ball.

The score remains 10-6 with the Chiefs punting the ball to 49ers punt returner Ray-Ray McCloud III. In a shocking matter, the ball is muffed, and the Chiefs recover the ball in the red zone. This is not what the 49ers needed. The Chiefs would then retaliate with Patrick Mahomes throwing a 16-yard touchdown, giving the Chiefs their first lead
of the game with the score at 13-10.

The 49ers are now in a tight situation. We enter the 4th and the 49ers have not been able to get anything going since the second quarter. They would have to get something going this quarter. The score is at 13-10 as the Chiefs lead. The 49ers are able to drive up the field for the first time in a while to get the go-ahead touchdown. 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy throws a 10 yard pass to receiver Jauan Jennings, making the score 16-13. The 49ers take back the lead.

The Chiefs retaliate yet again, driving up the field with ease but only able to convert on a 24-yard field goal tying the game at 16. This game has gotten very competitive with both teams driving up the field at will. As the 49ers converted on a 53-yard field goal making the score now 19-16.

There is very little time left but the Chiefs will drive up the field yet again and kick a 29-yard field goal tying the game at 19 and sending the game to overtime. The 49ers receive the opening kick to start overtime and come out with a hot start as they quickly climb up the field. However, they’re thwarted by the Chiefs defense, resulting in the 49ers settling for a 27-yard field goal. As the Chiefs receive the ball, this is their final chance to win the Super Bowl as they trail 22-19. Led by superstar Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs drive their way up the field as Mahomes tosses for a 3-yard pass to Mecole Hardman Jr. Mahomes goes to win his 3rd Super Bowl and the Chiefs 4th championship win in franchise history.
