On Saturday, March 30, 2024, Kathryn Ravenel DuRant (Kay) entered into eternal rest at home at the age of 84. Her Graveside Service will be held Saturday, June 8 at DuRant-New Harmony Cemetery at the corner of I-95 and N. Brewington Road, Gable, SC at 1:00 pm. A visitation and refreshments will follow at New Harmony Presbyterian Church, 1174 New Harmony Church Road, Alcolu, SC.
Kay was born at Riverside Infirmary, June 12, 1939, to Jervey and Kathryn Ravenel. She graduated from Ashley Hall (1958) and Palmer Business College. She was a member of Junior League of Charleston, Colonial Dames of America (state of South Carolina), DAR William Capers Chapter in Columbia, SC, lifetime member of the Huguenot Society, altar guild of Eighth Street Chapel (Ft. Meade, MD), and member of the Carolina Assembly.
She traveled with her husband, Henry L. (Bongo) DuRant, to US Army postings in Europe and Southeast Asia, living as a Charlestonian in exile. Wherever she made home, she gardened with the greenest of thumbs and cared for friends all over the world. She is survived by her three children Lide, Kathryn, and Jervey; and three grandchildren Clara, Ike, and Jonathan.
