Deputies with the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office received a BOLO from Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (VA) that a homicide suspect from their jurisdictions was possibly passing through Clarendon County on Interstate 95 South. Deputies followed the suspect vehicle until it exited Interstate 95 at mile marker 115. Deputies attempted to stop the suspect vehicle and the vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit continued South on Alex Harvin Highway/Highway 301 towards the City of Summerton. The pursuit continued South through the City of Summerton on Highway 15 towards St. Paul/N. Santee. The pursuit continued South on Highway 15 until the suspect crashed/drove through the barricades of the old bridge, which disabled the suspect vehicle. The Suspect James Anthony BARNES was taken into custody without incident. The female passenger that was inside of the vehicle was detained for questioning and later released with no charges. BARNES is currently being held at the Clarendon County Detention Center for failure to stop for blue lights because of the pursuit in Clarendon County, SC, and homicide warrant from Richmond, VA.
