Families, firefighters come together for Community Safety Day

Posted

Clarendon County Fire Rescue hosted its annual Community Safety Day on Saturday, Oct. 25, drawing an estimated 250 residents to JC Britton Park for an afternoon of food, fun, and fire safety.

The event, which also featured a Trunk or Treat, gave families the chance to meet firefighters, learn lifesaving safety tips, and enjoy hands-on demonstrations. Attendees watched a live vehicle extrication and participated in a bucket brigade challenge, two of the day’s highlights.

“Events like this help our members get to know their community,” said CCFR Public Education and Information Officer April Conyers. “Too often, we meet people on one of the worst days of their lives. Community Safety Day gives us a chance to enjoy each other and have fun together.”

Local businesses and organizations helped make the event possible, including sponsors Piggly Wiggly of Manning, Simpsons Hardware, Journey Helping Others, Dorr Farms, Chris Lyons, and another donor who asked to remain anonymous. Conyers said there were “so many community partners” involved that listing them all would be impossible.

The free family-friendly event included candy, food, and opportunities for children to meet first responders and explore emergency vehicles up close.

Community Safety Day is one of Clarendon County Fire Rescue’s signature outreach events, designed to educate residents about fire prevention, preparedness, and teamwork—while helping strengthen the department’s connection with those it serves.
