The Clarendon County School District (CCSD) has announced significant progress across all levels, from elementary to high school, based on the recently released 2023-2024 South Carolina School Report Card data. These gains underscore the district’s successful interventions and instructional strategies, resulting in district-wide academic improvements.

“This year's report card is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our students, teachers, administrators, and support staff,” said Superintendent Dr. Shawn Johnson. “These results showcase our strategic initiatives' effectiveness and collaborative efforts' power. We are incredibly proud of the progress made at all levels and remain steadfast in our dedication to providing every child in Clarendon County with a high-quality education.”

Several elementary schools saw remarkable improvements in their overall ratings. Dr. Rose Wilder Elementary School achieved an "Excellent" rating, a substantial jump from its "Average" rating in 2022, while Manning Elementary School improved to an "Average" rating. Walker Gamble Elementary School earned an "Excellent" rating, exceeding its 2022 "Good" rating and maintaining the same excellent status from 2023.

"I'm incredibly proud of the collaborative effort that has driven such significant academic gains for our K-5 students in Clarendon County,” said Dr. Erica Murdaugh, Director of Early Childhood and Elementary Education. “The success shown in the 2024 SCDE Report Card is a testament to the dedication of our entire school community. I extend my sincere congratulations to our dedicated administrators, teachers, students, parents, and community members."

At the secondary level, Manning High School and Scott’s Branch High School saw notable increases in graduation rates, which Dr. Johnson attributed to improved counseling services, intentional student scheduling, and new credit recovery policies. Additionally, End-of-Course (EOC) passing rates improved at several schools due to targeted tutoring, professional development for teachers, and strategic interventions.

“Our secondary focus is now more heavily centered on instruction and intervention, with an emphasis on preparing students to succeed on standardized assessments," said Dr. Tyneshia Eaddy, Director of Secondary Education. “We want to ensure that we build on our students' strengths from the elementary level, so they continue to grow and succeed academically and beyond.”

The district has also seen enhanced college and career readiness, with students now better prepared for post-secondary education and the workforce. This success is due to district programs that offer essential skills and industry credentials, setting students on a strong path for their futures.

Overall, CCSD remains committed to maintaining and building on this progress, ensuring that every student receives the tools they need to succeed.
