Update on County Council: 1/11/21

Posted

Clarendon County Council met for their regularly scheduled January Board Meeting this Monday, Jan 11. The meeting began with the usual pledge, introductory remarks, and invocation, approval of agenda, and approval of minutes.

Moving on from the meetings formalities, the council appointed Arlene Ham to serve an additional term on the Clarendon County Library Board.

After appointing Ham to the board, Council moved on to a public hearing involving Ordinance 2020-10. This ordinance involves the transfer of Clarendon County property to the City of Manning. A process which is simple, but must be carried out formally. All of the property mentioned in the ordinance resides within Manning, and was originally intended to serve as the grounds for the Clarendon County Administration building. However, when plans changed and the location was moved to Sunset Drive, the lot sat vacant. The City of Manning now plans to use the land for the good of the community. However, first, they must navigate through the red tape of a city-to-county transfer.

After the public hearing, council held the second reading of the ordinance before moving on to Finance, Administrator’s, and Chairman’s reports.

After the three were done speaking, council moved into an executive session to discuss two items: Project Sunshine II and Project Mobile I. There is little known about these projects at the time. As we receive more information, we will update.

After the executive session, Council held the first reading of Ordinance 2021-01, which is an infrastructure grant agreement. More details will be provided about the agreement after Council holds their second reading and public hearing on the matter next month.

From here Council adjourned.
