UPDATE: Alcolu man identified in fatal Turbeville wreck

A 51-year-old Alcolu man was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle collision on Salem Road near Burnt Branch Road, about six miles south of Turbeville, according to information provided by Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell identified the victim as Angel Perez Cruz, who was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday at MUSC.

The crash occurred Nov. 16 at approximately 4:47 p.m. and involved a 2003 Ford F-150 traveling east on Salem Road. The vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, returned to the pavement, then crossed over and traveled off the left side before striking a ditch. Perez Cruz was the sole occupant of the truck.

The collision remains under investigation.
