A South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) inmate housed in Clarendon County has been charged by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) in connection with separate investigations in Abbeville and Laurens counties.
According to SLED, Larmarcus Alexander Stewart Jr., 37, was charged with stalking on May 19, 2026. He was charged with exploitation of a vulnerable adult and financial identity fraud on June 16, 2026. Stewart remains incarcerated at Turbeville Correctional Institution (TCI), and the case will be prosecuted by the 8th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
According to an arrest warrant, the stalking charge stems from allegations that Stewart repeatedly sent electronic communications to an Abbeville County resident on Aug. 17, 2025, intending to place the victim in reasonable fear of death or great bodily injury.
Investigators allege Stewart sent text messages claiming he had been hired to kill the victim. The warrant also alleges he sent a photograph of the victim's residence and referenced personal information known only to the victim. The warrant further alleges Stewart continued contacting the victim after being repeatedly told to stop.
The affidavit states Stewart committed the alleged acts while incarcerated within TCI, using a contraband cellular device.
The exploitation of a vulnerable adult and financial identity fraud charges both stem from alleged offenses in Laurens County on Aug. 15, 2025.
According to the warrants, the investigation stems from a September 2018 incident in which Stewart allegedly abandoned a victim during a medical emergency, then retained possession of the victim's vehicle and personally identifiable information. The affidavits state the victim suffered severe medical complications and was left permanently paralyzed and disabled.
SLED investigators allege Stewart later used the victim's personally identifiable information without authorization to open financial and online accounts and obtain credit for himself while incarcerated. The warrants further allege Stewart carried out the offenses using a contraband cellphone and knew the victim was permanently disabled and vulnerable.
SCDC records show Stewart is currently serving three active 13-year sentences for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature stemming from Abbeville County convictions. The records also show he has been disciplined multiple times while incarcerated, including sanctions in 2022 and 2023 for possessing or attempting to possess a cellphone.
The affidavits state probable cause for all three new charges is based on a SLED investigation.
