Clarendon County deputies are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman in Summerton that occurred on Saturday, August 24th.
Lekenla R. Cantey, 41, was found unresponsive in a hallway inside a home by deputies responding to the scene, according to a statement from the Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office. The Clarendon County Coroner's Office confirmed that Cantey was deceased upon their arrival.
Investigators determined that Cantey had suffered gunshot wounds inflicted by her father, Buster Bennett, 68, who is wheelchair-bound. The incident reportedly took place during a physical altercation between the father and daughter. Other family members were present at the home at the time of the shooting.
No charges have been filed in connection with the incident as of this time, authorities said. The investigation remains ongoing.
