Southern Senior Living wins DAISY award

Posted

Southern Senior Living announces that they are now DAISY AWARD certified. Partnering with the DAISY foundation is an amazing opportunity to honor our nurses and nurse leaders who give their all every day to ensure our residents are provided the highest standard of care.

The award originated as a way to honor a young man who lost his life to a rare autoimmune disease. The family wished to honor his memory and show their gratitude to the amazing nurses who cared for him (www.daisyfoundation.org).

We will offer 4 awards total this year. One award for each of our 3 facilities will be awarded to a direct care nurse. One will be awarded to a nurse leader from the organization.

These awards will automatically qualify them for entry into the national Daisy Foundation Award.

The award includes many benefits including tuition reduction at participating universities, grants for medical mission trips, and other discounts.

One of the most unique things about the Daisy is the sculpture that is given upon award. The Shona Sculpture or Healer’s Touch are hand-carved exclusively for DAISY AWARD winners by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe. Each serpentine stone sculpture is uniquely carved and signed by the sculptor. The Shona tribe believe that a healer deserves the greatest honor, thereby each nurse who has provided that healing hand is given one of these unique sculptures in honor of their commitment to healing and the profession of nursing. https://www.daisyfoundation.org/daisy-award/healers-touch.

We also have begun our own internal awards program for our CNAs and every other staff member who is non-licensed. The BEE AWARD (BEING EXCELLENT EVERYDAY) program honors non-licensed personnel who strive for excellence in their professions. Those who like DAISY nominees show a standard of excellence and compassion in their everyday lives.

The most unique thing about both awards is that no employee may nominate another. The nominations are only provided by patients, their families, or visitors.
