The Williams Post 68 Lady Warriors bounced back from a split against Post 29 Express by sweeping a doubleheader against Post 1 Legion on Tuesday, finishing a four-game stretch with three wins in four contests at Laurence Manning Academy.
Post 68 opened the stretch June 25 with a dramatic 5-4 walk-off victory over Post 29. Trailing 4-0 after two innings, the Lady Warriors rallied to tie the game before scoring the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.
Sophia Rivers doubled to drive in the tying run before McKenzi Pearson lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring the game-winning run.
Derion Singleton pitched a complete five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out two. Rivers and McRee Holcombe each had a hit, while Rivers, Pearson and My'Aniah Robinson each drove in a run.
The nightcap proved just as competitive but ended in heartbreak for Post 68, which fell 8-7 in 10 innings despite holding a four-run lead earlier in the game.
The Lady Warriors pounded out 15 hits, led by Allie Geddings, who went 4-for-5 with four singles and two stolen bases. Singleton drove in two runs, while Pearson, Holcombe, Ella Grace Sandifer and Rivers each collected multiple hits. Post 68 also stole six bases but could not overcome a late comeback by Post 29, which scored the winning run on a groundout in the top of the 10th inning.
The Lady Warriors responded Tuesday by sweeping Post 1 Legion in another home doubleheader.
In the opener, Post 68 earned a 5-4 victory after overcoming an early deficit with a four-run second inning.
The Lady Warriors drew 10 walks in the contest, with Addison Bryant, Reagen Lane, Pearson, Singleton and Holcombe each reaching twice via base on balls. Bryant also earned the win in relief, allowing two runs over three innings while striking out two.
Later Tuesday, Post 68 completed the sweep with a 7-5 victory.
After surrendering five runs over the first two innings, the Lady Warriors regained the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Pearson delivered an RBI single, another run scored on a wild pitch and Lane drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the rally.
Bryant again provided steady relief, tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing three hits and striking out two. Pearson, Singleton and Holcombe each recorded a hit, while Pearson and Singleton each drove in a run.
The four-game stretch showcased the Lady Warriors' resilience, as they erased deficits in three of the four contests and finished with a 3-1 record, including two comeback victories and a walk-off win.
