George William Stukes

George William Stukes of Florence, SC, beloved husband, father, brother, and community leader, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at the age of 64. George was with Angela Stukes, his wife of thirty eight years, in Charleston, SC and near his cherished sailboat, Sea Share, when he passed away.

The son of the late Dr. Joseph Taylor Stukes and Courtney Randolph Stukes, of Florence was born in Maxton, NC. George was a proud resident of Florence where he enjoyed a long career as an Associate Vice President and financial advisor with Stifel. He served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Clarendon and served as a former president of his family’s timber business. A man of service and community, he was an active member of the Florence Rotary Club since 1995. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and the past president from 2002-2003 of the Florence Rotary Club. George was involved with the Florence Rotary Foreign Exchange Student Program and he and his wife hosted two foreign exchange students. George was also a member of Toastmasters for over thirty five years, a member and usher at Central United Methodist Church, and a proud member of the Charleston Yacht Club. He was a graduate of the College of Charleston and West Florence High School, where he was student body president. George and his wife enjoyed supporting the Florence Symphony Orchestra and the Florence Little Theater. George enjoyed sailing the Charleston harbor with his wife and friends on his sailboat, Sea Share, most weekends. George’s greatest passion in life was his family; he dedicated his life and time spending it with his beloved wife, children, and grandson.

George is survived by his wife, Angela Jamison Stukes of Florence and Charleston, who stood by his side through every tide. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Dr. Taylor Mizell Stukes Duffin of Charlotte and Joseph William Stukes of Florence, and cherished a grandson, Reynolds William Duffin of Charlotte. George also leaves two older brothers, Taylor Hudnall Stukes (Kelly) and C. Randolph Stukes (Ruth), both of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews. George also leaves behind two exchange student daughters, Anylú Zertuche Rodríguez of Mexico and Camille Rolin of Belgium. 

He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Joseph Gordon Bonner Stukes.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 31st at Central United Methodist Church in Florence, SC at 11am. The family will receive visitors at Central United Methodist Church at 10am prior to the service where family and friends will gather to celebrate George's remarkable life. George's life was a testament to his love for family, community, and sailing.
