Clarendon County Council recognized Olivia McConnell, 9, of New Zion during its regular meeting held Monday at the Clarendon County Administration Building for her work in getting the Carolina Mammoth recognized as the state fossil. McConnell wrote Gov. Nikki Haley, Sen. Kevin Johnson, Rep. Robert Ridgeway and other lawmakers earlier this year in an effort to have the ancient beast recognized.
