CCSD implements summer school credit recovery costs

Posted

The High School Student Success Indicator (HSSSI) measures the percentage of students who are either (a) in their first three years at a high school and are on track to graduate within four years or (b) who achieve a successful high school outcome within five years. The HSSSI includes the First Year On Track to Graduate (1YOTG) rate, the Second Year On Track to Graduate (2YOTG) rate, the Third Year On Track to Graduate (3YOTG) rate, and the Five-Year Student Success Rate (5YSSR). Since 24 High School credits are required to earn a regular diploma in South Carolina, at least four of which must be English credits and at least four of which must be math credits, a student is considered on track to graduate within four years if they have earned six or more High School credits, at least one of which must be an English credit and at least one of which must be a math credit by the end of each successive year in High School. Thus, by the end of their first year in High School, students are considered on track if they have earned at least six (6) credits, with at least 1 English credit and one math credit. By the end of their second year at High School, students are considered on

track if they have earned at least 12 credits, with at least 2 English credits and two math credits. By the end of their third year in High School, students are considered on track if they have earned at least 18 credits, with at least 3 English credits and three (3) math credits. Thus, if a student fails to meet the above requirements of obtaining six units each year, one in mathematics and the other in English, they will be required to attend Summer School and complete credit recovery. Each course of Credit Recovery will be $125.

We encourage students to take advantage of class time during our regular 180 days of school, as we know that credit recovery puts an extended burden on parents/guardians and staff. In addition, we understand that summer school can be a crucial opportunity for students to make up credits and stay on track with their academic goals. Our commitment to providing a quality education remains unwavering, and participating in the summer school/credit recovery program can be a valuable investment in your child’s future.
