A dog with a very important job

Posted

Matteo, a seventeen-month old German Shepherd, loves all and is loved by all that have had the opportunity of meeting him and his partner Deputy Scott Danback.

Matteo has been in the care of Danback and his family since September of 2022. He works alongside Danback and the Clarendon County Sheriff”s Office as a certified therapy dog. Matteo has undergone extensive training from the time he was eight weeks old. After passing many tests of skill, he and his partner are certified as a Qualified Canine Good Citizen and Victim’s Advocate. After applying everything he learned into our local community, Deputy Danback and Matteo were awarded National Certifications.

Matteo has visited schools, hospitals, nursing homes, day cares, courtrooms, victim’s homes, and children homes. He can also be found at local events, festivals, and camps. When Danback was asked what he liked about working with Matteo, he states, “I enjoy interacting with people all over our county. No matter what the situation, he makes such a difference in the lives of others. His instincts toward others are impeccable. The joy he gives is making a positive difference and that is all matters at the end of the day.”

When asked what is most challenging about having Matteo as a partner he said, “I wish I had ten of him. There are not enough hours in the day to impact everyone that needs him. I never want him to feel rushed or for the people he helps. The only complaint I have is wishing there was more time for the quality therapy he gives.”

When Matteo is not on the clock giving back to our community, he enjoys time well spent with his family that includes his sister Minka, who is also receiving the training necessary to become a certified therapy dog. As much as Matteo works, he also plays. A balanced healthy life is one of the most important things in Danback’s opinion. Everyone in our community can benefit from their services. Whether you are feeling lonely, struggling with depression, going through a silent battle, or just love dogs, Matteo is always ready and willing to meet new friends and make someone’s day.

Deputy Danback wanted to share his appreciation for the love and support from the Sheriff’s Office, as well as our community. “I have never been happier in my career and I appreciate all the positive interactions with our community.”
