A 29-year-old Summerton woman died Monday morning after a head-on wreck on Governor Richardson Road, about 5.8 miles from Pinewood. Lance Cpl. Matt Southern with the S.C. Highway Patrol said that the woman was driving east in a 2014 Ford Fusion when she drove left of center for unknown reasons and collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Keith Morris of Sumter. Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock identified the deceased as Courtney Barrett, 29, of Summerton. He said she was declared at the scene. "She sustained fatal injuries and was entrapped in the car," Southern added. Both Morris and a passenger in the Tahoe, Michael Barker of Johnsonville, were transported to McLeod Health Clarendon for injuries. Morris' injuries were more severe than Barker's, Southern reported. Mock said an autopsy will be performed 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston on Barrett's body. Southern said all involved in the wreck were wearing seatbelts.
