A 21-year-old Alcolu man is facing charges of driving under the influence resulting in fatality and leaving the scene of a collision for his alleged role in a Friday afternoon wreck that killed an 18-year-old Alcolu man. S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Hannah Wimberly reported that Zackery Swiger was taken to Clarendon Memorial Hospital to be treated for unknown injuries from a wreck that happened about 3:17 p.m. Friday at Alderman Camp Road near Trinity Church Road. James Cody Sanders, 18, of Alcolu was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, according to Deputy Coroner Bucky Mock. Sanders was a passenger in Swiger's 2003 Toyota Echo, which left the right side of the road, overcorrected, went to the left side, struck an embankment and then overturned after going to the right side again. Clarendon County firefighters closed the road for about two hours Friday afternoon to clear the scene. Wimberly did not say why Swiger will be charged with leaving the scene, but miscellaneous traffic on the police scanner indicates authorities were searching for an unidentified male matching his age in the Alderman Camp Road area about the same time of the wreck. Manninglive.com will have more information as it develops. Swiger's current status is unknown.
