Circuit Court will have to decide bond for shooting suspect

A man who shot his wife Saturday and then turned himself into authorities at the Clarendon County Detention Center has yet to appear before a Clarendon County Magistrate judge for bond. But a Circuit Court judge will have to decide whether he can get out of jail while awaiting trial. South Carolina law deems certain offenses off-limits for bond before a magistrate when the sentence for the offense could include a life sentence or the death penalty. Johnny Lee Richburg is accused of shooting his 57-year-old wife at her home on Poston Lane off U.S. 521. Julia McCray Richburg was declared dead at the scene, according to the Clarendon County Coroner’s Office.
