Walker Gamble Elementary Celebrates Grant Awards for Innovative Learning

CCSD Teacher Awarded Two Grants

Manning, SC, November 15, 2024 - Walker Gamble Elementary is excited to announce that Mrs. Kelsey Brunson has been awarded a K4 Arts Integration Grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission, totaling $1,603.00. This grant is designed to enhance arts-integrated learning experiences for 4K students and to provide teachers with professional development opportunities in arts integration.

Mrs. Brunson’s innovative approach will include the participation of origami artist in residence Tracie Owenby, who will collaborate with students and teachers in all three 4K classes at Walker Gamble Elementary.

With this grant, Mrs. Brunson aims to inspire young minds by incorporating creative arts into the curriculum, reinforcing the importance of arts in education. Additionally, funds from the grant will be used to establish an arts integration closet stocked with various materials that all three classrooms can share for future projects, promoting collaborative learning among teachers.

“Congratulations to Mrs. Kelsey and all of the 4K teachers! I am thrilled that she and her team recognize the value of teaching not only with the arts in mind but also through the arts,” said Jessie Welch, District Arts Coordinator. “This grant will undoubtedly enhance the educational experience for our students and foster a love for the arts.”

In addition to the K4 Arts Integration Grant, Mrs. Brunson has also been awarded a classroom mini-grant through the Clarendon Soil and Water Conservation District in the amount of $500. This funding will help her educate students about the conservation of plants and animals in South Carolina, including an exciting initiative where the class will learn about and adopt a sea turtle.

Walker Gamble Elementary looks forward to the implementation of these programs, which will enrich the student's educational journey and instill a greater appreciation for both the arts and environmental stewardship.
