UPDATE: Summerton man fatally struck on Paxville Highway

A Summerton man died after being struck by a pickup truck Friday night on Paxville Highway, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Clarendon County Coroner's Office.

Jamal Henry, 44, of Summerton, was identified Monday by Clarendon County Coroner Jacqueline Blackwell. An autopsy is scheduled for this week at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The collision occurred around 10 p.m. Friday, June 26, near the intersection of Paxville Highway and Raccoon Road.

According to SCHP, a 2005 Ford F-150 was traveling west on Paxville Highway toward the Interstate 95 interchange and Paxville when it struck Henry, who was walking north across the highway.

Henry was transported by EMS to an area hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the collision.

The driver of the Ford F-150, who was the vehicle's sole occupant, was not injured.

The collision remains under investigation by SCHP.
