NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 24, 2021


The Sumter County Coroner’s Office, along with Sumter Police Department are investigating after a body of an adult male was located in a wooded area behind the Piggly Wiggly store located at 1011 Broad Street on September 20, 2021.


An autopsy was conducted on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.


The body is that of an adult male that is believed to be between 40-50 years old and that of a white male. The individual is believed to have been a homeless person residing in the Sumter area. Autopsy shows a tattoo on the right forearm of that which appears to be a grim reaper. (pictured below) The male is to thought to be approximately 5’6 – 5’8 tall and weighing about 175 -200 pounds. He was wearing a t-shirt, cargo shorts, and a pair of black slip on tennis shoes with white soles.
