The Eagles of Scott's Branch claim lead in the sixth inning to defeat Cross High School

  Scott's Branch Varsity baseball stole the lead late and defeated Cross 15-14 Thursday. The game was tied at 13 with Scott's Branch batting in the bottom of the sixth when they scored one run on a stolen base. Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. The Eagles collected 16 hits while the Trojans of Cross had three. Scott's Branch took an early lead in the second inning when Sean Swaringer singled driving in a run. The Eagles scored eight runs in the second inning. The rally was led by singles by David Way, Xavier Bennett, Christiane Oliver, Swaringer, and Carlos Cruz, a groundout by Nyquan Lee, and a double by Dae'Zhon Dingle. Brandon Noble was credited with the victory for Scott's Branch. He lasted three innings, allowing two hits and five runs while striking out five. Carlos Cruz threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Cruz recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Scott's Branch. Gavin took the loss for Cross. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing zero hits and zero runs while walking zero. Dingle started the game for Scott's Branch. He went three innings, allowing eight runs on one hit and striking out eight Caleb started the game for Cross. He lasted two innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs while walking zero Scott's Branch racked up 16 hits on the day. Cruz, Bennett, Noble, Oliver, and Lee each racked up multiple hits for the Eagles. Bennett and Cruz each collected three hits to lead the team. They were able to steal 15 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. J'Mari Mellerson led the way with five. Cross tore up the base paths, as five players stole at least two bases. Defour led the way with four. Cross was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Defour had the most chances in the field with eight.
