This year’s Super Bowl of Caring at Manning United Methodist Church (MUMC) was a resounding success, raising $13,737 in donations and collecting 845 canned goods to benefit United Ministries of Clarendon County.
Thanks to matching grant funds, these contributions will be doubled, bringing the total impact to over $27,000 and 1,690 cans to help fight food insecurity in the community.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of the people of Clarendon County,” said Kelly Gottheiner of MUMC, who helped organize the initiative. “This effort will make a real difference for United Ministries as they continue their work to support our neighbors in need.”
The Super Bowl of Caring, a nationwide movement, uses the energy of Super Bowl weekend to encourage giving. Locally, MUMC led the charge, encouraging donations of canned goods and monetary contributions, with all proceeds staying in Clarendon County.
United Ministries, led by Executive Director Kathy Bryce, provides essential services, including food assistance, prescription aid, and mobile food pantries, serving thousands of residents each year. The Super Bowl of Caring is one of its most significant annual fundraising efforts.
For those still looking to support United Ministries, donations of staple food items, including rice, dried beans, mac and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, and canned vegetables, are always needed. Monetary contributions can be mailed to United Ministries, P.O. Box 73, Manning, SC 29102.
