A Summerton woman allegedly forged more than $13,000 in checks from a former employee.

Meagen Cheek is charged with third-degree burglary, two counts of breach of trust with fraudulent intent, five counts of forgery with a value under $10,000 and one count of petit larceny.

The checks were cashed in both Clarendon and Orangeburg Counties, and Cheek was arrested in Orangeburg.

Lakeside Landscaping, Cheek’s former employer, noticed odd numbers in their finances, which resulted in Cheek being fired in November, according to Orangeburg County deputies.

The arrest came earlier this month when Cheek was held at the bank after employees questioned the validity of the checks being presented.

The amount forged is believed to be around $13,439.

Bond was set at $7,500.
